Learn how an understanding of Social Role Valorisation (SRV) can help expand opportunities and improve life outcomes for your family member with disability

Have you been wondering what you can do to ensure your family member with disability is not disadvantaged by marginalisation, discrimination, and stigma, and instead has the opportunity to thrive and enjoy all that life has to offer? Then this workshop is for you.

In this two-hour online session, you’ll be introduced to Social Role Valorisation (SRV), a social theory developed by Dr Wolf Wolfensberger to guide efforts that support marginalised people to access the good things of life.

Many groups in our society are more likely to face marginalisation and stigma, including people with disability, older people, Indigenous Australians, migrants, and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds. These experiences of discrimination can negatively affect every aspect of a person’s life.

SRV offers a powerful framework for counteracting these negative life experiences.

We’re so excited that the wonderful Darcy Elks will share her knowledge in an engaging two-hour introductory workshop on 28 January 2026!  Through real stories and examples, she’ll explain how SRV can help expand opportunities and improve life outcomes for people with disability.

We hope you’ll join us!

    Portrait of Darcy Elks

Darcy Elks is an educator, consultant, human service evaluator, and advocate for people who are societally devalued. She is also a parent of three children, one of whom has an intellectual disability.

Darcy has worked with many different groups of people across the globe, including people who have themselves been marginalised by society, family members, professionals from different disciplines, such as teachers, psychologists, social workers, members of faith communities, and human service providers from several fields (intellectual disability, mental health, and aging).

Darcy’s work focuses on encouraging the development of vision, attitudes, structures, and actions that promote social value and inclusion for people with disability and others who have been devalued and excluded. She is passionate about creating inclusive communities where everyone is welcome and can each use their gifts for the good of one another.

Darcy’s thinking and work have been greatly influenced by her daughter Mary’s life experiences, and her presentations reflect both personal and professional perspectives. She was fortunate to work with Dr Wolf Wolfensberger, who is the creator of Social Role Valorisation (SRV). Elements of SRV are woven throughout Darcy’s work.
