A free four-part online series for educators across Australia
What does a meaningful future after school look like for your students with disability, and what role can you play in shaping it?
Employment outcomes for young people with disability, particularly those with intellectual or significant disability, remain low. Not because these students lack potential, but because the pathways to work aren’t always built around them. This series is about changing that.
Across four online sessions, you’ll explore Customised Employment, a practical, evidence-based approach that starts with the individual student, not the job. At its heart is a process called Discovery, a structured way of getting to know a student deeply: their interests, strengths, and what helps them do their best, and using that knowledge to shape real, paid employment that works for everyone.
Whether you attend live or catch the recordings, you’ll come away with a clearer, more individualised approach to employment planning, and practical tools you can start using in your school straight away.

What you’ll explore
- The foundations of Customised Employment: what it is, why it works, and how it differs from traditional approaches
- Building your team: Establishing teams and partnerships among educators, families, supporters and providers to gather and document information about your students
- Discovery in practice: activities and tools you can integrate into school and transition planning
- From insight to action: how to turn what you learn about a student into clear goals and next steps that help build the pathway to successful pre/post-education employment outcomes.
Your presenters
You’ll learn directly from Therese Fimian and Randy Dicks of Marc Gold & Associates, both practitioners with decades of hands-on experience implementing Customised Employment and Discovery. They’ll draw on real student examples to bring the process to life.
