Getting started with Discovery

Getting started with Discovery

Start: Tue 23 Apr, 2024 12:00 End: Tue 23 Apr, 2024 14:00

Location: Online, via Zoom

A live interactive session for families wishing to assist family members with disability to find meaningful employment

Discovery is the process of learning about a person with disability – their interests, skills, and conditions in which they thrive – and using this information to help them find meaningful employment or work experience.

In February 2023, we hosted an online workshop called Co-creating employment with Discovery, presented by Milton Tyree from Marc Gold & Associates. This workshop explored

  • the benefits of starting the employment process by discovering the person, not focusing on the job
  • how to discover any person’s interests and potential workplace contributions – even if they communicate without words
  • the importance of challenging conventional wisdom when it comes to disability employment
  • how to translate everyday life activities into employable traits
  • how to move from Discovery towards paid employment.

On Tuesday, 23 April 2024, we’re inviting families who want to implement Discovery for their family members to a live interactive session to explore how to get started. This session is designed to help you develop your own Discovery process.

If you didn’t attend the original online workshop or need a refresher, we recommend watching the on-demand replay of Co-creating Employment with Discovery. Without this background knowledge, you won’t get as much value from the session. Your registration will provide access to the replay as well as the live interactive session.
