Day 2, 11:00am Concurrent Session 3B
Jordan O’Reilly and Yasmine Gray
HireUp- Jordan O’Reilly
It was Jordan’s experience as the sibling of a brother with a profound disability that shaped both his choice to become an Occupational Therapist and his desire to work towards a brighter future for all Australian’s with disabilities and their families.
Amongst other projects, Jordan developed Hireup, a platform that aims to match people with disability and support workers not just on qualification, but on shared interests.
For people with disability and their families, Hireup allows users to manage their own employment relationships with support workers. Unlike other online care marketplaces, Hireup takes care of administrative back end functions like tax and super payments, insurance, payroll and workplace health and safety. For support workers, Hireup is an easy way to find flexible, meaningful work with industry-leading wages.
Experience The World – Yasmine Gray
The NDIS provides reasonable and necessary supports to help participants reach their goals and aspirations. For most of us, this includes getting out and about to experience the world, whether that be in our local community or further afield.
While getting out and about can sometimes be difficult for people with disabilities, getaboutable.com can help by providing information about activities, services and venues accessible to people with mobility-, vision-, or hearing-impairments. With both map-based and keyword search functions, getaboutable.com caters to users who are “just browsing, getting ideas” as well as those looking for a specific activity or in a specific area. The website is global in scope and, although most of its current listings are in southeastern Australia, the geographic spread of listings is increasing as getaboutable.com uses crowd-sourcing to gather information in the form of listings and reviews.
During this presentation, conference attendees will hear about how to use getaboutable.com to find and share information about accessible activities, services and venues, as well as how NDIS funding can be used to help support NDIS participants to experience the world.
