Imagine More’s Director, Jan Kruger, will be presenting at our August 2016 Conference.
Jan is the Director of Imagine More, a family-led organisation based in Canberra. Jan co-founded Imagine More in 2013 to strengthen family leadership and advocacy for people with a disability to get the good things of life.
Imagine More’s guiding principles are inclusion, valued social roles, positive relationships, family involvement and community contribution. Jan’s work was recognised with a nomination for the 2014 ACT Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards.
Jan uses a refreshing and strength-based approach to ‘visioning’ for the good life that families say provides hopes and a clear way forward. Individuals with a disability then have a better chance of a meaningful life in the community through valued social roles as, for example, employee, friend, and homeowner. Identifying where paid support is needed and intentionally developing freely given relationships is a key focus.
Having a child with a disability has sharpened Jan’s skills for building relationships, advocacy and seeking valued social roles. Jan has demonstrated expertise in change agency, community development, individual and family advocacy, facilitation of meetings and workshops, research and management.
Jan regularly facilitates workshops to empower individuals with a disability and their families. This includes capacity building workshops to explore what is a good life, how to plan; safeguard and how to intentionally build community connection. Jan’s own experience of establishing her son’s Circle of Support, has equipped her to better support families to take the first step, gain confidence and provide motivation.
Jan is passionate about working towards the success of inclusive education. Jan believes that individuals with a disability can hold valued social roles and contribute in their local communities. Jan strives to build the capacity of families and communities to see how we can all support each other.
