It is important — even essential — to hold before us a positive, well-articulated vision of a good life for each person.
Holding a clear vision of the good life is an important step to keep a person focused on where they are heading in life. Having a written vision statement can help a person make decisions when there are many choices. It can keep a person on track when unexpected things happen and provide hope.
We would expect that a person’s vision for life would contain the same things that all of us would include when describing the good things of life.
A vision could include:
- Life long learning
- Meaningful employment
- A sense of belonging – being known and missed when you are not there
- A place to call home
- Connections and relationships with people that share your interests and value your attributes and strengths
