Keys to my good life

Meet Annie, a 24-year-old woman who wants to live her best life. Annie and her mother, Kathryn, will give you a glimpse of Annie’s week and talk about her transition out of home and how, with her part-time work, advocacy work, fitness, and friends, Annie fills her week with meaningful activities.

Kathryn, who is doing her best to keep up with her daughter, will talk about the steps she and her family, along with paid supports, have put in place to support Annie in pursuing her dreams.

    Annie is 24 years old and lives in Canberra. Annie works part-time as a reservations agent for Murrays Coaches, a role she has had for two years.

    Graduating from Merici College, Canberra, in 2020, Annie left school with a real passion for learning new things. Upon finishing high school, Annie completed a Certificate 2 and then commenced a Certificate 3 in Office Administration.

    Annie began exploring work in Grade 11 and has held a variety of roles, including hair salon assistant, working in a Microbusiness “Pa’s Produce”, and as an Office Assistant. She is a Committee Member on the ACT Down Syndrome and Intellectual Disability Association. She is also a Member of Down Syndrome Advisory Network (which is a Down Syndrome Australia advocacy group) representing the ACT since December 2025.

    Currently, Annie is transitioning to living out of home, learning to drive and saving for an overseas trip. In her spare time, Annie loves cooking and eating out, dance, and Zumba.

    Kathryn is the mother of two adult daughters; Annie is her youngest. Kathryn has always held a goal for Annie to be as independent as possible and is passionate about employment for people with a disability. As a full-time working mother, she also understands the challenges of never having enough time or energy.
