The Centre for Inclusive Employment

The Centre for Inclusive Employment (CIE) officially began on March 7, 2025. It aims to enhance employment outcomes for people with disability by providing service providers with resources, tools, and training.

The initiative is led by Swinburne University of Technology in consortium with various disability and capacity-building organisations, including Inclusion Australia, Family Advocacy (acting as the lead organisation of NACBO, the National Alliance of Capacity Building Organisations, including Imagine More), Disability Employment Australia, and others.

The CIE’s key objectives include:

  • supporting service providers and employers to deliver effective employment supports
  • providing accessible documents, including plain-language and Easy Read versions
  • fostering stronger disability awareness and understanding of evidence-based models
  • improving customised employment and career planning
  • enhancing employer support and knowledge in hiring individuals with disabilities.

Through its online hub, CIE will offer a Collection that includes research, evaluations, and best-practice resources to promote inclusive employment in various work settings.

Our contributions to the online hub will include resources to foster authentic Customised Employment in Australian workplaces. These resources have been developed primarily to help families – especially those who self-manage NDIS plans – navigate a system dominated by traditional employment support organisations with relatively low expectations about the employment capacity of people with intellectual disability.

We believe that every person with disability has the capacity to contribute meaningfully within a workplace. We hope our contributions to the Centre for Inclusive Employment will help disrupt the current system and lead to exciting employment and career opportunities for Australians with intellectual disability.
