We are so excited to announce that the National Alliance of Capacity Building Organisations (NACBO) has been chosen to advise on delivering Australia’s first Disability Employment Centre of Excellence.
The NACBO consortium is made up of six organisations from across Australia:
- Belonging Matters (VIC)
- Imagine More (ACT)
- Community Resource Unit (QLD)
- Valued Lives (WA)
- Purple Orange (SA)
- Family Advocacy (NSW).
Family Advocacy will be the lead organisation representing NACBO.
Swinburne University will host the Centre, which will be developed in partnership with a consortium consisting of the Australian Government, Inclusion Australia, Disability Employment Australia, National Disability Services, and the University of Melbourne.
The Centre will bring together the collective experience and knowledge of people with disability, their families, their organisations, employers, service providers, and researchers to deliver practical, evidence-based resources and support – all to improve employment outcomes for people with disability.
Family Advocacy’s Executive Officer Cecile Sullivan Elder explained, “The role of families is critical in supporting the aspirations for and obtainment and sustainability of successful employment outcomes for their family members, especially when considering young people who experience significant barriers to work due to their disability”.
We look forward to providing more information and updates as we begin this important work.
