It is not uncommon for families to feel concerned about what their child’s life will look like once they finish school. Crafting a meaningful week where your child has purpose and looks forward to each day can take time. Families find that putting intentional effort into interests and relationships outside the school gate during the school years can help make this transition a smooth one.
Sethmi and her family have been doing just that. When she’s not performing Jazz or enjoying a day out bodyboarding at the beach, Sethmi is busy creating her Serendib Treats, which proudly share her Sri Lankan heritage.
Sri Lanka’s bright and festive culture shines through its cuisine, which blends rice, coconut, fruits and spices into delicious and flavourful delights. These traditional combinations are creatively reflected within Sethmi’s Serendib Treats. For those who still want a traditional bliss ball experience, Sethmi also provides some protein-based creations.
You can order some of Sethmi’s Serendib Treats via her website, or you may see her at some local markets around Canberra throughout the year.
Sethmi is currently finishing year 10 and preparing to start college (year 11) next year, where she plans to undertake some vocational studies. She will continue exploring work experience opportunities to discover other work roles that may be a good fit for her after she graduates.
If you’d like to know more about how Sethmi’s family created this micro-enterprise based on subtle interests, you can watch her mother, Erosha, presenting at the Opening Opportunities conference in 2023.
You can follow Serendib Treats on Facebook. This is where Sethmi posts about upcoming markets.
