Your money, your future
People with intellectual disability often face significant challenges in managing their finances. They are at heightened risk of accumulating high debt due to overspending and can become targets of financial exploitation and abuse, sometimes even at the hands of family members, friends, and paid support workers.
What can be done to reduce the financial vulnerability of people with disability and to enhance their ability to lead more financially independent lives?
In this session, Care Financial’s community educator, Carolina Albornoz, answered this question by highlighting the common financial pitfalls and exploitative scenarios that people with disability may encounter and discussing ways to safeguard against them.
She shared effective strategies and tools that have helped people with disability develop essential skills like budgeting and managing daily expenses.
This session was as relevant to people under guardianship as it was to those living more independently.
